【20-A-3】　GitHub: Insights from Researching Growth

It started with a question, ”Why were so many people signing up for GitHub, but failing to get started?”
For the first five years of designing GitHub we relied largely on our experience and intuition to make decisions. In 2014, we decided to focus on designing ways for our engineers and designers to use data and analytics to help change how we evaluate and make product decisions. Our scale and the challenge of building a product to help facilitate collaboration for different types of people, projects, and organizations around the world has presented us with unprecedented design challenges. To better understand and support growth, we have slowly begun to roll out experiments and user studies. We plan to share insights into what we’ve learned and how we’re helping get research tools into the hands of our team members across the company.

GitHubを設計している最初の5年間はGitHubを作っているチームメンバーの経験と直感をもとに決めていました。2014年にエンジニアとデザイナーがデータやアナリティクスも活用してGitHubの状況を評価してプロダクトに関する決め事を出来るための方法を構築する決断をしました。サービスの大きさそして様々な種類の利用者、プロジェクト、組織が一緒に作業できるサービスを開発するのは今までに無い難問をGitHubに突きつけました。 Growthをより理解して支えるために、実験やユーザースタディーの展開を徐々に開始しています。このトークでは、我々がどのような事を学んできて、リサーチのツールをGitHubのメンバーにどうやって共有しているかに関して共有します。)

クリッシーはGitHubにてUser Experience Research (UXR)の指揮をしています。以前はMozillaとその他のスタートアップにて新規ユーザー獲得の仕事をしていました。ユーザーリサーチをするはるか前には「性別と労働」の研究をしていた歴史学者でした。専門は航空業界における女性のキャリアでした。

デリックグリーンツリーはカーネギーメロン大学でコンピュータサイエンスを専攻しました。2000年には交換留学で慶應義塾大学で勉強しました。大学卒業後はソフトウェアエンジニアとして働いていて、現在コロラド州のボルダーに住んでいます。2012年にGitHubに入社してからはアナリティクスチームにてGitHubのお客さまとインフラから生成された情報をもとにGitHubの機能の改善とプロダクトデザインのサポートをしています。GitHub以前にはコロラドのスタートアップ企業でウェブアプリケーションのスケールアップの仕事をしていました。
